YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING REMOTELY USEFUL WITHOUT UPPING YOUR RAM CONSIDERABLY the rest of my previous post remains true IMHO Once you have rendered the output of the soft synths etc you will be able to drop the buffer to a more responsive level of 128, 64 or even 32 for your final mixdown. these settings relate directly to CPU load and latency (measured in microseconds) and the drain on your computers resources is increased further by your relatively low amount of RAM. concerning latencies what I meant to say was that a BUFFER size of 256 or 512 (rather than the faux pa 256ms or 512ms) may be what you need to use for general operation especially when using power hungry plugins. anything below that eg.128ms or 64ms would require a 'Quality' audio interface rather than the onboard chipset.' 'A latency of 256ms or 512ms is recommended. In my previous post I allowed my brain to get muddled in my reply anything below that eg.128ms or 64ms would require a 'Quality' audio interface rather than the onboard chipset.Ĭe message a été modifié par qusp74 - mer. They need to be low, but not too low A latency of 256ms or 512ms is recommended. Also if you have the settings for latency in your DAW too low this may be causing problems. Also if you are running plugs such as the more powerfull softsynths and samplers such as KONTACT that are processor hogs or plugs that need to access sample sets or wavetables you should relocate these resources to an external harddrive. This is needed just to provide scratch for the ram, not even taking into account what the system need for its operation.

however if you upgrade your ram to say 3 or 4 gig you will need to have at least three times that amount spare on your system drive to provide scratch or (swap) disk space with 3gig ram you will need 9gig spare on your system drive and 12gig spare for 4gig of ram. Never once had a complete crash. Also 1gb is not enough memory these days the operating system will be taking up the majority of that so I recomend getting as much ram as your machine can hold. Now I’m starting to wonder if I should’ve just stuck with Mac. I figured if I fished out five grand for a computer it would be flawless and I wouldn’t need to upgrade for a long time.

The things still crashes all the time and really fucks with my motivation to work.

Frustrated, I did some digging and found a native instruments article instructing how to set a Windows computer up for optimal music production settings (which I found dumb that my super computer was programmed to not run at full capacity all the time).

On my 8gig MacBook Pro I could run maschine and Ableton at the same time no problem, with this thing I get spikes and crashes off of just running maschine with comparable CPU load as my Mac.

So I bought a fully maxed out PC 64 gigs of RAM, i7 3.7 GHz, the works, you know, thinking it I could run 100 instances of any plugin and be fine. I wanted to stay in the apple ecosystem, but like many people have mentioned, all the dongles and peripherals really pissed me off because if I’m gonna be spending that kind of money on a computer I don’t want to have to fish out another few hundred to use all my hardware. But as I became better at producing my needs for more ram increased and thus a better computer. I started on a 2012 MacBook Pro and loved it for the longest time, and still do actually.
